We are the first to come up with a zodiac garden and a navagraha garden in a modern medicine hospital. Countries like South Korea and Mexico followed suit.”“In our zodiac garden, there are 27 trees linked to 27 stars. If you sit and meditate under the tree corresponding to your star for half an hour, it improves your health. Similarly, there is this yoga exercise using your tongue that helps increase saliva, which in turn forms an enzyme good for the nerves. “The budget allocation for research purposes needs to be increased or else we will lag behind many countries in healthcare,” he said.

Thiruvananthapuram: While corporate hospitals have been setting up medicities or opening ayurveda wings to mint money in the name of medical tourism, biohospitals essentially blended modern and other systems of medicine, said eminent cardiologist Dr K M Cherian.Speaking at the ongoing International Ayush Conclave organized by the government here, he said: “Ayush (ayurveda, yoga & naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy) plus allopathy is the concept behind the biohospital. This is a proven mechanism and many patients are using this now,” said Dr Cherian, chairman of International Centre for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Disease, and chairman of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai.Stressing on the need for research, he said though yoga, ayurveda, homoeo and siddha have their own benefits in certain part of a treatment, no research study proved it scientifically. “For instance, there is this herb, found between Palakkad and Coimbatore, that can be used as antidote for snake bite. But no study was undertaken in this regard. Similarly, there is this yoga exercise using your tongue that helps increase saliva, which in turn forms an enzyme good for the nerves. It controls your respiration level and heart beats. Many foreign countries have begun research into this,” he said. The doctor also cited the example of tilapia fish skin used for healing burn wounds in Brazil. “The budget allocation for research purposes needs to be increased or else we will lag behind many countries in healthcare,” he said.
