Kerala Express among four long-distance trains displaying voter awareness messages

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Express is among the four long-distance trains on which messages are displayed as part of voter awareness campaign for Lok Sabha elections 2019. To spread the message, people are permitted to take photographs with the trains and upload it on social media. It is a joint initiative of the Election Commission of India and Railways. The wide network of railways is being utilized to reach out to urban as well as rural sections.The train, which covers a distance of 3,035km on a daily basis, passes through eight states. Important contacts like the voter helpline number and the number of the national voters’ services portal and motivational messages urging people to vote are displayed.Ranbir Singh, chief electoral officer, Delhi; Padma Angmo, director SVEEP, Election Commission of India; and R N Singh, divisional railway manager, Northern Railway; flagged off Kerala Express at New Delhi railway station on Friday.The other trains, which display voter awareness messages, are Himsagar Express covering 3,714km in 12 states, Howrah Express covering 2,087km in six states and Guwahati Express covering 3,237km in seven states.The trains will be flagged off by respective state chief electoral officers and district election officers at the state and district headquarters as they traverse across the route.
