23 hurt as RTC bus falls off bridge

Vigilance wing of KSRTC has initiated an inquiry into the accident. Twelve among them were admitted to the hospitals and rest were discharged after being given first aid,” said Ubaid.Avinashi police have registered a case.

T’puram: As many as 23 people were injured when a Scania bus of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) from Pathanamthitta fell off a bridge in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours on Sunday. There were 30 people in the Bengaluru-bound bus, when the accident occurred around 2.30am.Twelve persons have been hospitalised and three among them suffered serious injuries in the accident. A team of KSRTC officials, including assistant transport officer T A Ubaid, assistant works manager K P Vincent and depot engineer Sanjay K Viswanath from the Palakkad depot, visited the accident site.“It is suspected that the driver dozed off while the bus was crossing the bridge at Avinashi. The bus hit the median structure on the bridge and lost control before falling off the bridge. The driver is an employee of the company which provided the bus on wet lease and the company will repair the bus.“The conductor of the bus, Joby K Koshy, a KSRTC staff, suffered fracture in his leg. The injured passengers were taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and a private hospital in Tiruppur. Twelve among them were admitted to the hospitals and rest were discharged after being given first aid,” said Ubaid.Avinashi police have registered a case. Vigilance wing of KSRTC has initiated an inquiry into the accident.
