Probe into MLA’s role in ‘suicide bid’

The investigation is being led by Kollam City Police Commissioner S. Ajeetha Begum. The official recorded the statement of the victim at a private hospital in Neyyattinkara where she is currently under treatment. Charges may change On the basis of the statement, the police may alter the charges filed against the legislator. While he had been booked for abetment of suicide and use of obscene language on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s husband, it is likely that the police will invoke sections of the Indian Penal Code related to rape. The investigating team is yet to record the statement of Mr. Vincent. Meanwhile, the legislator has submitted a complaint to the State Police Chief, alleging that a few CPI(M) leaders are behind a conspiracy that targeted him. He called for a probe into the role of the CPI(M) members in the incident. Another MLA blamed In his complaint, he accused Neyyattinkara MLA K. Ansalan of playing a role in the conspiracy. Mr. Vincent said a few CPI(M) leaders were present at the victim’s house, a short while before the alleged incident. After the incident, the victim was rushed to the private hospital in an ambulance by CPI(M) members in quick time. He alleged that Mr. Ansalan was present at the hospital when the ambulance arrived and managed to gain access to the room where the police recorded the victim’s husband’s statement. This amounted to a lapse on the part of the police officials concerned, Mr. Vincent alleged.
