MALAPPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau VACB ) team on Friday arrested the Intelligence Officer of the Commercial Taxes , Malappuram and an Inspector after they were caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 60,000 from a building owner.The vigilance team from the Northern Range office of the VACB held both the Intelligence Officer K. Mohanan and Intelligence Inspector Faisal Ishak from the Commercial Taxes office at the Civil Station in Malappuram with the bribe money paid by the complainant.Mohanan had inspected a site of building under construction by the complainant at Chelari and sought bills of the materials purchased for the constructions. After alleging tax evasion, Mohanan asked him to pay Rs 3 lakh as penalty. According to the complainant, the accused had demanded the bribe after offering to reduce the penalty to Rs 1.5 lakh. Mohanan allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 for himself and Rs 10,000 for the Inspector. The complainant then approached the VACB.
