One killed, four injured in accident

One person was killed and four others were injured when a speeding car rammed a bus shelter at Thiruvallam on Monday. The alleged delay on the part of the police in reaching the accident site resulted in the irate local residents staging a blockade on the road. Driver fleesThe driver of the car fled from the scene of the accident, abandoning a women and a child who were in the vehicle. The accident occurred on the Pachalloor-Vazhamuttom road at 10 a.m. after the car driver lost control of the vehicle, which went on to hit a parked scooter and rammed a bus shelter.

As the car hit the concrete pillars, the structure collapsed and fell over those who were standing under the roof. The police identified the deceased as Devendran, 40, of Paravila, near Thiruvallam. He died on the spot. The injured persons, Madhu, 51, Dharmaraj, 50, Prasad, 34 and Pradeep, 30, all natives of Paravila, were taken to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital after they were rescued by personnel of the Kerala Fire & Rescue Services and local residents. Driver flees The driver of the car fled from the scene of the accident, abandoning a women and a child who were in the vehicle. The alleged delay on the part of the police in reaching the accident site resulted in the irate local residents staging a blockade on the road. The city traffic police have registered a case in connection with the accident. Efforts are on to identify the whereabouts of the driver, the police said.
