Good news for art enthusiasts as an assorted collection of antique brass oil lamps is being exhibited at the Art (Napier) Museum in the city. The exhibition is being organised by the Department of Museums and Zoos as part of the World Heritage Week 2017 celebrations. The exhibition was inaugurated by Minister for Museums Kadannappally Ramachandran on Wednesday. “This is the first time we are celebrating World Heritage Week and also the first time these oil lamps have been put on display,” K. Gangadharan, Director of Museums and Zoos, said in his presidential address. Though the museum has a staggering collection of antiquities, the constraint of space has been hindering public exhibitions of this sort, said Museum Superintendent P.S. Manjula Devi. Vanchi, Garuda, Kavara, Kaliyamardhana, Changalavatta, and Nagathiri are some of the lamps on display now. More lamps will be added to the display collection in the coming days. A special ‘Mizhavu Thayambaka and Chakyarkoothu’ performance will also take place in the museum campus on Thursday at 6 p.m. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. till November 25.
