The cases of covid-19 have been decreasing but it is still uncertain whether the school or educational institutions will open or not.

The municipal administration department has decided to launch online classes for high school students.

The feedback from the pilot project in Vijayawada, Ongole, Tirupati, Srikalahasthi and Narsapuram also prompted the department to go for full-length online classes for students of Class VI to X.

Initially, the department conducted online classes for SSC students in five towns and found the results positive.

The director of municipal administration (DMA), M M Nayak, has asked commissioners of 59 urban local bodies--where high schools were functioning--to immediately purchase educational zoom licenses to start online classes.

He asked the municipal commissioners to arrive at the required number of licenses keeping in view of the total students. “Minimum five licenses should be purchased in each ULB. The low-strength classes (below 100 students) could be merged within a particular ULB,” said Nayak.

He directed the municipal schools to provide required infrastructure including mobile stands and boards for conducting online classes.

The municipal commissioners should rope inward education secretaries and volunteers to create awareness among children and parents about online classes and ensure that students attend the classes without fail.

However, there are apprehensions that students without smartphones might miss classes. According to recent studies, around 30 percent of government school students own smartphones.
