Revival of craft in Etikopakka toys, hailed by PM

He said, It’s a huge enhance to us as a craft neighborhood to get recognized by the Prime Minister, particularly at a time once we are struggling amid the pandemic and likewise dealing with a risk of extinction.” It has been instrumental in bringing a few shift from using titanium dioxide bonded artificial colors to vegetable dyes within the wood toys.

Raju is an agriculturist who revived the dying artwork of constructing wood toys among the many craft neighborhood of Etikopakka. He focused on strengthening the native information of constructing vegetable dyes, creating new instruments and methods for growing their shelf life and producing new makes use of for them.

When Raju began attending national-level workshops and dealing with Crafts Council of India. He studied about using vegetable dyes on material after which he did on wood toys. He also explored Jap Ghats and the key dyes within the vegetation’ roots, barks, stems, leaves, fruits and seeds.

Then in 1992 vegetable dyes made their approach from Andhra Pradesh to Vadodara for a nationwide exhibition. Etikoppaka toys obtained the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Geographical Indication Registry (GIR) in 2017. The neighborhood during this time had round 150 households who practise the craft type. The wood is sourced from domestically grown ankudu or Wrightia tinctoria bushes.
