The news of herbal medicine working against Covid-19, spread like wildfire across the state prompting thousands to turn up in the village.

Thousands of people thronged Krishnapatnam village in Andhra Pradesh`s Nellore district on Friday for Ayurveda treatment that promises to cure Covid.

The Krishnapatnam herbal medicine hit the headlines when hundreds of people claimed that they have fully recovered from Covid-19 only after taking the drug distributed by former village sarpanch Anandaiah.

The news of herbal medicine working against Covid-19, spread like wildfire across the state prompting thousands to turn up in the village.

All the roads leading to Krishnapatnam village were virtually packed with hundreds of vehicles, including ambulances.

The local legislator Kakani Goverdhan Reddy’s announcement to resume the distribution of medicine had triggered the flow of rush into the village.

People started to gather in the village right from the early hours.

Although legislator Goverdhan Reddy had personally visited the village to kick-start the distribution, the organisers temporarily put off the programme following a heavy rush of the people in the village.

The district police administration rushed additional police forces to Krishnapatnam to manage the crowd.

According to initial estimations, more than 40,000 people reached the village seeking medicine from Anandaiah.
However, the former sarpanch said that they could distribute the formulation for about 3,000-4,000 people.
They explained to the waiting crowd that preparing medicine for several thousands of people was not possible in such a short duration.

The hundreds of vehicles stranded on narrow lanes leading to Krishnapatnam village.
People walked for about 3km by leaving their vehicles on road to take the medicine.

Surprisingly, many ambulances with patients on oxygen support have also reached the village.

The confirmation by the official committee, which investigated the medicine preparation by Anandaiah and also noticed oxygen saturation levels going up from 85 to 95 within a few minutes of administration of the eye drops containing the herbal medicine, seemed to have prompted people on oxygen support to rush to the village.

District administration made elaborate arrangements to ensure the visitors follow the social distancing norm while taking the medicine.

However, the crowd surpassed all estimations of the officials as the makeshift shelters could not accommodate all.
Hundreds of people waited for hours in the scorching heat.

Patients from a Covid-19 ward in GGH, Nellore reported having checked out to reach Krishnapatnam.
]“We got a report that about 20 patients from Covid treatment ward got themselves discharged late on Thursday. We are not aware as to where they have gone,” said district medical and health officer Dr S Rajyalakshmi.
Sources, however, confirmed that they have all rushed to Krishnapatnam.
