Four women from Bihar, 2 UP drivers arrested with drugs in Tripura

AGARTALA: East Agartala police on Monday arrested four women from Bihar at Jogendranagar railway station of the city with a large quantity of dry cannabis, which they meant to smuggle to other parts of the country. Police said based on a specific input, officer-in-charge of Collegetilla outpost, Shaymal Debnath, raided Jogendranagar railway station, noticed the suspicious movements of four women, and detained them. During the search operation, police recovered a total of 22 kg of dry cannabis valued at Rs 4 lakh from their possession. All four have been arrested and produced before a court on Tuesday. A specific case under the NDPS Act 1985 has been registered against them and an investigation to find out their local sources and support for the smuggling of the narcotics is under way.In a separate raid, Tripura Police alongwith Assam Police seized a huge cache of narcotics cough syrup, Phensedyl, valued at Rs 3.5 crore at Churaibari on the Tripura-Assam border from a truck and arrested the driver and the helper identified as Chandrasekhar Tiwari and Ramsagar Tiwari, both residents of U P. During the search, as many as 38,200 bottles of Phensedyl packed in 215 cartons were recovered from the truck. The police are continuing their investigation and advising the public to be cautious of such scams.Day after arrest, bootlegger escapes from police custodyA man escaped from police custody in Ahmedabad after being caught with bottles of premium liquor brands at Sabarmati railway station. The man was identified as Rajesh Motwani and was charged under the prohibition act. While in custody, he requested to use the restroom and escaped. The police have registered a complaint against him and are conducting an investigation.
