Tripura man held for trying to open flight door mid-air, injured in scuffle

Agartala: Tripura police on Thursday arrested a 41-year-old man identified as Biswajit Debnath, a resident of Jirania of eastern Agartala from an Indigo flight coming from Guwahati at the runway here for attempting to open a front door of the aircraft in mid-air.A senior police officer here said Debnath was travelling from Hyderabad via Guwahati to Agartala by Indigo 6E457 in seat number 1D. When the flight was preparing for landing, he suddenly ran to the front door and tried to open it but was prevented by the crew members leading to a scuffle.Alarmed, another air hostess on the flight jumped on him and pulled him back with the help of other passengers. He allegedly misbehaved with the crew members and repeatedly tried to move forward to pull down the door handle, airline staff complainted. The angry passengers beat him up inside the flight, police said, injuring him.CISF jawans with Indigo staff here rescued Debnath in a critical condition after the flight landed safely and later handed him over to Airport police station. He was shifted to hospital but doctors, suspecting that he was a drug addict, he was out of danger. The incident occurred before take-off to Goa. The accused, Anil Kumar, was deplaned, booked for outraging the modesty of a woman, and sent to jail. The harassment took place when the accused boarded the flight and started misbehaving with the flight attendant, attempting to touch her inappropriately and making sly remarks. The airline crew escorted him out of the aircraft and handed him over to the police.
