Agra: The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration has started working on a plan to revamp Buddha Park at Shahdara, after a team of the state forest department inspected the spot and discussed a plan to develop it as a tourist destination.According to sources, the park was originally a landfill site, which was capped and planted with trees to turn it into the Buddha park. However, due to lack of maintenance, the greenery around the park faded before long. It is currently little more than a barren land. The civic body plans to restart plantation at the spot and also develop a pathway to attract morning walkers.On Saturday, principal secretary of the state government Renuka Kumar, along with additional municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar and officers of forest department had gone on a ground inspection of the Buddha park. The senior official directed adequate plantation in the park as the first phase of the plan to develop it as a tourist spot. In this regard, the Agra Development Authority (ADA) has been tasked with preparing a detailed project report (DPR).Kumar said, “The principal secretary has directed plantation at all four sides of the Buddha park. We have started the work. A pathway has also been proposed, which will be developed around the park to make it a morning walk destination.”“Apart from this, it has been planned to develop a specified part of the park as an evening entertainment site to attract tourists. Arrangement of funds to rejuvenate the park and develop it as a tourist spot will to be made through corporate social responsibility,” the official said.
