Sanitary worker shot at by upper caste men in Kasganj

AGRA: Tension prevailed in Kasganj city on Tuesday early morning, after a dalit sanitary worker was shot and injured by upper caste men.The incident took place at around 7:45 am in Pholowali gully colony near Jama Masjid of Kasganj Kotwali police jurisdiction. The upper caste men even verbally abused the victim.”Station house officer of Kasganj Kotwali, Ashok Singh said, “Rinku is a habitual drinker. On a mere issue of collecting the garbage outside his home, he shot the sanitary worker. When he protested, they fired shot at Sonu.”Vijendar Solanki, father of the three accused is priest of local Chamunda temple in Kasganj. The victim was identified as Sonu (25), a resident of Jai Jai Ram colony.

He sustained bullet near his elbow and was taken to a government hospital.After the incident, scores of sanitary workers of local civic body, blocked the entrance into Kasganj city for nearly two hours in protest of attack on their fellow colleague. An intervention of senior police officials and FIR on accused brought the situation under control and agitators called off the block.Police booked three brothers identified as Rinku Solanki, Jitendar Solanki and Shankar Solanki under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 25 arms act and ST/SC.Rajni Sahu, the chairperson of Kasganj, Nagar Palika Parishad, said, “A team of sanitary workers including Sonu were collecting the garbage from Pholowali gully colony, when heavily inebriated Rinku along with brothers, unprovoked, fired at Sonu. The upper caste men even verbally abused the victim.”Station house officer of Kasganj Kotwali, Ashok Singh said, “Rinku is a habitual drinker. On a mere issue of collecting the garbage outside his home, he shot the sanitary worker. We have arrested him. Since the victim’s acquaintance have filed FIR against three men, we have booked all of them.”He said, “We are now checking our police records to ascertain if Rinku has any criminal records, as he used an illegal country-made weapon to fire on the sanitary worker.”Sandeep, the colleague of Sonu who witness the incident said, “We were cleaning the street near Jama Masjid, when the three brothers of upper caste, unprovoked, verbally abused us. When he protested, they fired shot at Sonu.”Vijendar Solanki, father of the three accused is priest of local Chamunda temple in Kasganj.
