Meat processing plant officials, employees booked for slaughtering 'pregnant' buffalo

AGRA: Five people including the general manager of a government approved integrated meat processing plant in Aligarh were booked on Friday for allegedly slaughtering a "pregnant" buffalo According to police, sub inspector, Mohammad Yaseen found Buffalo’s "fetus", which was loaded in a truck with other waste material. He also revealed that vets who are appointed by the government to check the health and fitness of the animal usually do the formalities. He immediately arrested two people including an employee of HMA, Shakeel and Yaar Khan , who were taking away the waste material along with the fetus.Talking to TOI, Delhi gate police in charge, Sunil Kumar Singh said that killing of pregnant or nursing animals and their babies less than three months in age is banned.During interrogation, Shakeel told police that slaughtering of pregnant buffalo occurs at least twice in a week at the abattoir. "They come around 3 pm while slaughtering is done in the morning," he told police.Sunil told TOI that when police went to HMA for checking CCTV footage, they were told that recording was unavailable.Aligarh SSP, Ajay Kumar Sahni said that a case has been registered against five people including GM of HMA plant, their two employees including Shakeel and the production manager, and two others, who were involved in transportation of the waste material.Sahni said that he has written a letter to District Magistrate about taking action against the “doctor” appointed for checking animals at abattoir site.They all were booked under section 414 (Assisting concealment of stolen property), 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of IPC and section 11 in the prevention of cruelty to Animal act 1960, 41 and 102 of Code of criminal procedure 1973.When contacted, manager of HMA, Syeed Akhtar said he has no information regarding this.
