“They will be provided a badge, and all onboard railway personnel and supervisors of all outsourced agencies will report to him. Besides, it has been observed that commuters’ grievances are not being addressed properly on board. If a staffer fails to respond to the train captain’s call, action may be initiated against him.”The board, meanwhile, also directed all zonal railways to ensure that names and contact numbers of train captains are made available to passengers by printing these details on reservation charts.According to the railways, 12,617 trains ferry more than 23 million passengers — almost equal to the population of Australia — connecting more than 7,172 stations in the country daily. Hence, the board has decided to introduce the concept of a single person or leader — traincaptain, who will be responsible for coordinating with on board teams of outsourced housekeeping, catering staff, railway’s electrical staff, mechanical staff and RPF/GRP squad and facilitating all services during the complete journey of thetrain.”Citing the board’s order, Tyagi said train superintendents of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duranto, and senior most train ticket examiners (TTEs) of other trains would now be designated as train captains.
