Attempt to murder case filed against AMU student for alleged attack on journalist

AGRA: The Aligarh police has, on Thursday, registered a case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation against Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Mohammad Nadeem Ansari on a complaint by senior journalist Dr Jasim Mohammad . However, he did not disclose the contents of the letter given by the student. Kidwai said that Ansari however had asked Jasim to leave the campus.Meanwhile, the university has received the reply of the show cause notice issued to Ansari. Kidwai said that action will be taken by the administration soon. Jasim claimed that if he had not left the campus, the students would have possibly lynched him.However, Kidwai, who was also present at the time of incident, said that none of the students had carried weapons.

Nadeem has not, however, been arrested so far.Station House Officer (SHO) Civil Lines Vinod Kumar said that a case under various sections of IPC including 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 341 ( wrongful restraint ), 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on ground religion), 147 (rioting), 148 (armed with deadly weapons) has been registered against Ansari and an unknown assailant. He said further investigations are on.On Monday, the Bureau Chief of a national daily, Jasim, who was earlier the Media Advisor of the university, went to meet Prof Shafey Kidwai, spokesperson of the AMU, to discuss the issue of Dalit reservation. When he was talking to another journalist at the PRO’s office, some students, including Ansari, came there with arms and asked him to leave the office immediately.Jasim told media persons that he tried to explain the reason for his presence but Ansari did not listen and misbehaved with him. Jasim claimed that if he had not left the campus, the students would have possibly lynched him.However, Kidwai, who was also present at the time of incident, said that none of the students had carried weapons. Kidwai said that Ansari however had asked Jasim to leave the campus.Meanwhile, the university has received the reply of the show cause notice issued to Ansari.
