Man arrested for mistaken identity, acquitted of charges after 14-years

AGRA: In a shocking case of mistaken identity, a man was arrested for allegedly being involved in abduction of local man for ransom. During police investigation, cops found Jitendar Singh alias Bablu Tiger and Dholpur resident Dauji were involved in the crime. Since I had no money, Inspector Kundan Lal booked me under IPC section 364 (abduction for murder) and gangster act. At the time of arrest, the victim Jitendar was heading to Gurugram with his company truck to receive a batch of motorcycle from factory.

AGRA: In a shocking case of mistaken identity, a man was arrested for allegedly being involved in abduction of local man for ransom. After 14-years of struggle the victim was acquitted from false charges by district court Agra.Identified as Jitendar Singh , son of Rajkumar resident of Aurangpur Sambhi village of Bilhor police jurisdiction, Kanpur Nagar district, was arrested from Tat Mill square on April 23, 2005 at around 10:30pm, by the then station house officer of Pindaura, Agra, Kundan Lal along with sub Inspector Ram Singh and head constable Ram Chandra. At the time of arrest, the victim Jitendar was heading to Gurugram with his company truck to receive a batch of motorcycle from factory. After apprehending Jitendar, the trio took the victim in Janta Express and alighted at Shikohabad station to reach Pindaura police station.Though according to FIR filed by police, Jitendar was caught after an encounter which court rejected during trial proceeding.Speaking to TOI, Jitendar, the father of four said, “For money my entire life was ruined by Inspector Kundan Lal, who instead of arresting history-sheeter Jitendar Singh alias Bablu Tiger, son of Shiv Kumar of Saitha village, Gajner police jurisdiction Kanpur dehat district, nabbed me and booked for abduction and also levied gangster act against me.”Jitendar who was acquitted on July 9 from all charges, said, “Back in 2005 Inspector Kundan Lal wanted to eliminate me in fake encounter to close the real case of gangster Jitendar Singh alias Bablu Tiger, who was wanted in abduction of local man for ransom, but after the then SHO Basai Araila (Agra) Dharmendar Singh intervention my life was spared and I was asked to pay Rs 50,000 for my freedom. Since I had no money, Inspector Kundan Lal booked me under IPC section 364 (abduction for murder) and gangster act. I believe he was bribed by Bablu Tiger.”Jitendar was granted bail after serving 10 months of jail. Only April 5, 2007 he was acquitted in abduction case.It’s important to note, that Jitendar Singh alias Bablu Tiger was also an employee of same transport company in which victim Jitendar Singh was truck driver.Mahendra Singh Yadav, the retired additional district government council who fought Jitendar case, said, “On June 26, 2006 during reinvestigation, the then CO Pinhat found Inspector Kundan Lal guilty of wrongly framing the truck driver Jitendar in abduction case. Though for unknown reason, no action was taken against him.”According to police records, on February 12, 2002, Hariom a local resident of Ratoti village of Pindaura police jurisdiction was abducted and ransom of Rs 11.50 lakh was demanded. During police investigation, cops found Jitendar Singh alias Bablu Tiger and Dholpur resident Dauji were involved in the crime. Later in 2003, Dauji was arrested in encounter, but there was no trace of Bablu Tiger. In 2004, SSP Agra announced reward on Bablu Tiger.Advocate Mahendra Singh Yadav said, “On July 9, special district judge, Rajendar Prasad Srivastava also gave written order to DGP UP to file FIR against the Inspector Kundan Lal and summoned the cop to be present in court on August 1, failing which contempt of court would be issued against inspector.”A senior police official said, “Currently we are not aware as where Inspector Kundan Lal is, we have to check records to see if he is still in service or not.”
