The appointments of rojgar sevaks in Achnera block were made without orders by the state government. Agra: Twelve gramin rojgar sevaks were appointed in 12 gram panchayats of Achnera block, Agra district, between 2008 and 11 in the absence of any government order, an RTI query has revealed. After learning about it, deputy commissioner, labour employment, has sought details from block development office (BDO) of Achnera. No district level notification was issued by the district administration. A GRS in UP gets a monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000.According to sources, the appointments were made by officials at the block level.

Agra: Twelve gramin rojgar sevaks were appointed in 12 gram panchayats of Achnera block, Agra district, between 2008 and 11 in the absence of any government order, an RTI query has revealed. After learning about it, deputy commissioner, labour employment, has sought details from block development office (BDO) of Achnera. The BDO has forwarded the letter to rojgar sevaks to prove that their appointment is genuine.A gramin rojgar sevak (GRS) serves at the ground level in implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He conducts physical verification of development works in a village, documentation work, surveys and social audits. A GRS in UP gets a monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000.According to sources, the appointments were made by officials at the block level. No district level notification was issued by the district administration. The then district administration and chief development officer were not informed about the appointments. In the meantime, several officials were transferred in and out of the district.Deputy commissioner for labour employment Bhupendra Singh said, “The matter surfaced while preparing a response to an RTI query. Details have been sought from the BDO. The appointments of rojgar sevaks in Achnera block were made without orders by the state government. So far, 12 cases have surfaced. The number may increase. After Independence day, the matter will be discussed with the district magistrate for further action”.
