Japanese woman attacked by monkey near Taj Mahal; three international tourists bitten earlier in 2018

AGRA: A Japanese woman tourist was attacked and scratched by a monkey near Taj Mahal’s west gate on Sunday.The incident took place at around 12:30pm near Purani Mandi, 400 meters away from the monument. The victim who was traveling along with her two acquaintances was taken to district hospital for first aid in ambulance.Speaking to TOI, Mukesh Sharma, in-charge of Tourism police said, “The Japanese tourist was clicking pictures of local market and the simians who were roaming around the area, when suddenly one of the Rhesus macaque jumped on the woman and scratched her back. The woman suffered minor bruise, but was immediately taken to hospital in an ambulance provided for Taj tourist.”Neither the Tourism police nor the CISF, who are responsible for Taj Mahal (inside premises) security, had jot down the identity of Japanese tourist in their records.Bin Bhushan, CISF commandant of Taj Mahal said, “Since the incident happened outside Taj, there was no information conveyed to us. But in order to curb monkey menace particularly inside Taj Mahal, we have deployed our commandos with baton to scare away the simians. On May 22, two French women, tourists at the Taj Mahal, were attacked and bitten by a group of monkeys.On August 30, 2017, monkeys snatched a mobile phone from a 48-year-old man at Rawali, who later fell to his death from a terrace during the chase. On August 18, 2016, simians snatched a money pouch from a foreign tourist at the Taj.
