Agra: Man throws 11-month-old son in drain

AGRA / FIROZABAD: A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his 11-month-old son in Firozabad . On Monday afternoon, after an argument with his wife, Mohit stormed out of his house along with his son. Identified as Mohit Gupta (28), a resident of Baldeo road under Tundla police jurisdiction, the accused threw the child into a 12-foot-deep drain near NH-2 in Agra in the early hours of Tuesday. The area comes under Itmad-ud-daula police station.According to police, the accused informed his wife Varsha about their child’s death on Tuesday night. Tundla circle officer Sanjay Verma said, “Mohit has been living with his aunt’s family ever since he was a child.

Since he did not have a job, he was suffering from depression and often complained that he was ill-treated by his aunt’s family. During interrogation, he told us that he killed his son as he wanted to give him mukti and free him from worldly problems.”“Surprisingly, he showed no remorse. We are trying to find out if he is mentally stable. A case has been registered against him under IPC section 302 ( murder ),” added the circle officer.Neeraj Gupta, the accused’s cousin, said, “We still can’t believe that he killed his son. He was suffering from depression, but his overall conduct was quite good. On Monday afternoon, after an argument with his wife, Mohit stormed out of his house along with his son. After he did not return till late in the night, we informed local police. On Tuesday night, he called up and told us that he had left his son in Agra.”“We immediately contacted Itmad-ud-daula police, who informed us about the child’s death. We still don’t understand why he committed this ghastly crime,” added Neeraj Gupta.The Gupta family is in mourning as it was preparing to celebrate the child’s first birthday next month.
