Agra: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Mathura administration to immediately remove all encroachments caused by the construction of an effluent treatment plant (ETP) around the Giriraj Parvat According to the tribunal’s order that was delivered on Monday, the ETP plant at Jatipura is being installed near Giriraj Parvat and many of the Shilla (big boulders) have been displaced from their original position. The construction for the installation of ETP had begun even though clear directions were issued by the tribunal that it should be 50 meter away from the Parvat. The bench headed by Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore was not satisfied with the explanations given by the Nayab Tehsildar. The area where ETP was sought to be installed should be restored to its original condition after removing all the material so that it remains a “kacchi Parikrama” for the pilgrims and no difficulty is caused to them while going through it.The bench was acting on the plea that municipal solid waste was being dumped on the Govardhan Parvat and the parikrama marg surrounding it, leading to pollution, and the administration was not taking proper steps for its collection and disposal..During the course of proceedings, the bench also observed that the concerned ADM and SDM of the area were not present.
