Civic body to illuminate 1000 new street light points with LEDs

Majority of the 10,000 street light points which have not been equipped with LED are non-operational. The mayor has asked councilors to identify 10 points in their wards where street lighting arrangements are required.There are over 40,000 street light points in the city which are maintained by the civic body. Civic body officials claim that adequate street lighting arrangements will be made in the entire city by end of this year.Meanwhile, the mayor’s letter is igniting a controversy. Agra: The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) ahead of Diwali will install 1,000 LED street lights in the city. Each of the 100 municipal wards in the city will be provided LED lighting facility at 10 points.

Each of the 100 municipal wards in the city will be provided LED lighting facility at 10 points. Councilors have been asked to indenting new points and submit details in mayor’s office. Meanwhile, some of the councilors are having objections on the letter issued by private secretary of mayor Naveen Jain.In the letter, mayor Naveen Jain has informed councilors about the street light installation plan ahead of Diwali. The mayor has asked councilors to identify 10 points in their wards where street lighting arrangements are required.There are over 40,000 street light points in the city which are maintained by the civic body. Earlier this year, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), an energy service company of the government of India, had replaced 32,000 sodium light bulbs with LEDs. Of the remaining 10,000 bulbs, AMC had to install LEDs on its own.According to sources, there are points in the city which are not illuminated. Majority of the 10,000 street light points which have not been equipped with LED are non-operational. Civic body officials claim that adequate street lighting arrangements will be made in the entire city by end of this year.Meanwhile, the mayor’s letter is igniting a controversy. Councilors allege that the mayor is not following standard rules in issuing the letter.Senior councilor Shiromani Singh, said, “The letter should have been issued by the mayor himself or through the municipal commissioner. Instead, it is sent through a private secretary. This is an insult to the board of councilors. The standard format and language was not followed in the letter. The mayor has to follow standard rules and regulations. The objections will be brought to his notice”.
