Shafey Kidwai told TOI that AMU had suspended the two students named in the FIR. ‘Two students named in FIR suspended’AGRA: Uttar Pradesh police have booked two research scholars and several unidentified Kashmiri students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on charges of sedition after a video of them demanding “azadi (independence)” went viral on social media on Friday.In the 13-second video, purportedly shot on the campus on Friday, a day after the death of research scholarturned-Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Mannan Wani in an encounter in J&K’s Kupwara, a group of students can be seen raising slogans of “azadi”.Wani, who was pursuing a doctorate in geology at the university, when he joined the militant outfit earlier this year, was killed in an operation by the Army’s 30 Rashtriya Rifles in Kashmir’s Kupwara on Thursday.The varsity had issued notices to nine Kashmiri students who tried to perform namaz-e-janaza (prayers offered in the memory of the dead) following Wani’s death on Thursday.Aligarh SSP Ajay Kumar Sahini said two research scholars — Wasim Ayub Malik from the biochemistry department and Abdul Hasid Meer from the history department — and several unidentified students have been booked under various sections of the IPC.“We will write a letter to the university demanding CCTV footage of the campus where the students had gathered and raised slogans,” the SSP said.Varsity spokesperson.
