AGRA: A 14-year-old boy, who was working as a cleaner on a truck , stole the vehicle in Palwal , Haryana. The barely five-foot tall boy then drove 138km over two days before the vehicle ran out of fuel and he was caught in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh On Saturday night, highway police noticed that a truck with Haryana licence plate had been stopping at several places. Near Mehrara crossing on Jalesar road, a team from Sahpau police station intercepted the truck. The little, innocent-looking boy who stepped out out of the truck was too young to have driven the truck. At least so thought the policemen.What he told them later was unbelievable.Just 14 years old and originally from Etah , the boy said he was working as a cleaner on the truck in Palwal. He was paid a paltry Rs 5000 per month, which was not enough to meet the needs of his family. His father had expired and his mother works as a labourer in Etah.The boy then made a plan to steal the truck and drive it to Malawan, a village in Etah, notorious for being a place where stolen heavy vehicles are given new documents and re-sold. The teenager planned to sell the truck and its goods at Malawan, and make off with the money.On the morning of October 11, the truck was loaded with refrigerators worth Rs 14 lakh from Greater Noida. At 4 pm, when it reached Palwal and the driver Munna Singh went to make payments to the transport company, the boy took the wheel and drove away. He had only Rs 100 in his pocket. By the time he reached Hathras, he had run out of diesel. When police caught him, he had been trying to sell a spare tyre to buy diesel for the vehicle. Hathras police got to know from their Palwal counterparts about the stolen truck, which was being tracked in Haryana through a GPS device installed on it, according to Sahpau police station in-charge Jagdish (who goes by his first name).Police at first found it difficult to believe that the boy, who is short besides being underaged, could have driven the truck. With a driver sitting next to him, the boy was made to drive the truck to the police station.“Despite his age and height, he drove as well as an experienced driver, and brought the truck to the police station,” said an officer.“According to the boy, he had been working as a helper with various truck drivers for the past three years and had met the driver Munna Singh, from Faridabad , only a few days ago,” said Hathras superintendent of police Jai Prakash Yadav.The boy has been booked under section 379 (theft) of IPC at Hodal police station in Palwal and section 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property) of IPC at Sahpau police station in Hathras. He has been sent to a juvenile home on Sunday, said police.
