Agra: In what appears to be another case of suicide pact , a young couple decided to take their life by jumping in front of a speeding truck on national highway-2 after their parents disapproved of their relationship. However, the girl survived with minor injuries.The incident took place on Monday night in Kuberpur near Yamuna expressway under Etmadpur police jurisdiction of Agra district. Victim was identified as Shoaib (24), and Shubul (22). The couple hailed from Labour colony in Firozabad district.Speaking to TOI, Nitin Kasana, station house officer of Etmadpur, said, “The couple was heartbroken after both of their parents disapproved of their relationship. On Monday, the two eloped to commit suicide. By evening, the duo reached near expressway underpass and walked straight into the speeding traffic. But strangely, at the very last moment, Shoaib pushed Shubul away, and got crushed under truck wheel.”“The body was recovered and taken for post-mortem. On Tuesday, we handed over his body to his father Khalid,” added the SHO.This is the 25th case of couple suicide in the last 18 months in Agra zone.Earlier on Monday, a couple from Agra’s Kishorepura had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison in hotel. But, only the 18-year-old girl survived.Similarly, on October 28 night, a woman, mother of three children committed suicide by throwing herself in front of train near Billochpura along with her 19-year-old lover. The youth survived with an amputated arm.
