Woman and her toddler killed on road accident at NH-2

Agra: In a road accident on National Highway-2, a woman was killed along with her toddler while she was returning home with her brother-in-law on a motor-bike.The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon at around 2:30pm, near Bhagwati Dhaba of Sikandra police jurisdiction. The accused driver fled the scene leaving the truck behind, which was later seized by the local police.Soon after the accident, protests began in the area which soon turned violent. After the incident, local residents blocked the highway connecting to national capital for over two hours.Victims were identified as Anju (26) and her daughter Cuckoo, a one-year-old toddler. The two were sitting behind Rajveer Singh on a motor-bike when a speeding truck , in an attempt to overtake, hit the victims.Speaking to TOI, Bahadur Singh, acting SHO of Sikandra said, “After the accident, the truck driver fled the spot. We have sent the body for the post-mortem and will lodge an FIR based on victim’s relative complaint.”Later after the police intervention, the traffic was found on NH-2.Earlier on Friday, angry protesters in Aligarh pelted stones at cops, set a police motorbike afire and vandalized many others after an eight-year-old girl on her way to school was crushed by a speeding truck.The incident took place around 8:30 am on Khair bypass road, when the victim, identified as Vanshika Upadhyay, a student of class II at Gagan Public School under Bannadevi police jurisdiction, was going to her school along with her mother on a two-wheeler.According to witnesses, the girl fell off the two-wheeler and came under the wheels of the speeding truck, after the truck driver attempted to overtake the two-wheeler.
