AGRA: Amid speculations over formal announcement of an SP-BSP alliance at a joint press conference by Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP president Mayawati slated for today, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh on Friday claimed that he, too, was part of the grand alliance in UP.Talking to reporters after meeting party workers at Mathura, Singh said that the seat-sharing formula had, however, not been finalized yet. But sources in RLD said three seats in western UP, including Baghpat , Mathura, Kairana, may fall into the party’s kitty.Singh is likely to contest from his stronghold Baghpat while his son Jayant Chaudhary will once again contest from Mathura, said sources in the party. BJP MP from Mathura, Hema Malini , had defeated Jayant from Mathura constituency in 2014.In the Kairana Lok Sabha bypoll in UP in May last year, RLD candidate Tabassum Hasan who was supported by both SP and BSP defeated BJP's Mriganka Singh with a comfortable margin. The Kairana seat had fallen vacant in February 2018 after the death of Mriganka's father and veteran BJP leader Hukum Singh. On being asked about the Congress joining the grand alliance, Ajit Singh said, “Mayawati and Akhilesh Ji will decide on the issue.”Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party national general secretary Ramji Lal Suman claimed that party will be “flexible” in seat-sharing with others. However, regarding alliance with the Congress, he said, “They were unwilling to cede an inch to its allies in states where they emerged strong in the recent assembly polls, but expect that others to adjust according to their choice.” He said the Congress’s vote share in UP is completely insignificant but added that two seats, Amethi and Raibareli, will be left for them.
