Teacher locks sleeping student in classroom, set free after 2 hrs

Agra: A 10-year-old Class V student who had fallen asleep in class found himself locked in the room as the teacher concerned had failed to notice his presence while securing the door. The boy started crying for help. He kept screaming for nearly one hour before he was heard. Finally, the lock was broken and he was rescued.The incident happened on Friday at a government primary school located in Rajendra Nagar.According to local residents, an hour after the school over at 3 pm, they heard loud cries of a child. On inspecting the premises, they discovered that a student had been locked in a classroom. They summoned police and with their help, the classroom lock was broken to rescue the boy.Sumitra, boy’s mother, said, “My child was left locked in a room for two hours due to sheer carelessness on the part of the school staff. I am thankful to local residents and police for rescuing my child. He is terrified by the incident. Caretaker Gagan has threatened me that my child will not be able to study if I try to complain about the matter.”Locals claimed teachers barely remain in school for more than 2 to 3 hours. The caretaker loiters about taking little interest in discharging his duty.
