With sanitation supervisors put on poll duty parts of Agra city turn dirty

This is for the first time BLO duties have been assigned to sanitation supervisors.There are 100 municipal wards in the city. Agra: Sanitation services have been affected in a major part of the city as several sanitation supervisors has been appointed as booth level officer (BLO) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As a result, civic cleanliness has been affected in Shahganj and Chatta zones of the city, which is divided into four zones. The matter will be discussed with the district election department.”According to sources, sanitation inspector Pawan Kumar who got transferred to Kanpur three months has also been assigned BLO duty.

Agra: Sanitation services have been affected in a major part of the city as several sanitation supervisors has been appointed as booth level officer (BLO) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As a result, civic cleanliness has been affected in Shahganj and Chatta zones of the city, which is divided into four zones. This is for the first time BLO duties have been assigned to sanitation supervisors.There are 100 municipal wards in the city. Maintenance of sanitation and hygiene in these wards is looked after by 75 supervisors. Out of these, around 12 supervisors have been deployed for BLO duty under the voter verification campaign. They will have to go from house to house to verify voters.In their absence , a large number of sanitation workers often do not carry out their duties properly as there is no one to mark their attendance or supervise their work, sources said.According to sanitation workers’ leader Sundar Babu Chanchal, “BLO duties have been assigned to sanitation workers of Shahganj and Chatta zone. The situation is affecting maintenance of sanitation and hygiene. The matter has been brought to the notice of civic body administration. We have demanded that in public interest, sanitation workers should be immediately relived of BLO duty.”Municipal Commissioner Arun Prakash said, “The matter of sanitation workers assigned BLO duties has surfaced. A list of all such supervisors will be prepared. The matter will be discussed with the district election department.”According to sources, sanitation inspector Pawan Kumar who got transferred to Kanpur three months has also been assigned BLO duty.
