10day Taj Mahotsav to begin from Monday

Popular play back singer Kumar Sanu, Usha Uthup, and Ritu Pathak, Qawwali singer Altaf Raja, punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi, and Udan band will perform at seven-day Bollywood night during the cultural carnival. AGRA: The 10-day long Taj Mahotsav will start from Monday on the theme of “Parampara” (tradition).According to officials, the Mahotsav will be inaugurated on February 18 at Shilpgram by UP governor Ram Naik and the closing ceremony will be held on February 27.Talking to media, Agra divisional commissioner Anil Kumar said that handicraft fair, food stalls and cultural programmes will be organised during the Mahotsav. He said that about 325 legendary artisans will participate from different parts of the country and show their exquisite work of art.Among them are the wood/stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, bamboo/cane work from Northeast India, paper mash work from south India and Jammu and Kashmir, the marble and zardozi work from Agra, wood carving from Saharanpur, brass wares from Moradabad, hand made carpets from Bhadohi, pottery from Khurja, chikan work from Lucknow, silk & zari work from Banaras, shawls & carpets from Kashmir/Gujarat and hand printing from Farrukhabad and Kantha stitch from West Bengal etc.According to officials, the festival will also showcase a variety of art-forms from classical to folk.
