Two days on, residents of dozen localities reel under water shortage

AGRA: For the last two days, residents of a dozen localities, comprising almost one-fourth of the city, are facing shortage of water supply. More than a dozen leaks have developed in household pipelines, also resulting in inadequate water supply.Shahganj locality resident Ravi Verma said, “We have not been getting adequate water supply for the past few days. Water tankers have not been supplied to the residential areas.”According to Jal Sansthan officials, the water level in river Yamuna has dipped to a minimum of 480 feet at Jeevani Mandi water works station. We had raised the matter with Jal Sansthan officials. The water treatment infrastructure Jeevani Mandi station is under repairing.

AGRA: For the last two days, residents of a dozen localities, comprising almost one-fourth of the city, are facing shortage of water supply. On Sunday, over 10,000 households did not receive a drop of water. Despite repeated complaints, Jal Sansthan officials did not even send water tanks to the affected localities.The supply has been affected as Jeevani Mandi water works station and zonal pumping stations are not working properly. Besides Jal Sansthan has not been able to put plug leaks in the main supply pipeline.The Jeevani Mandi water works station whose optimum capacity is 135 million litres a day (MLD) is presently supplying around 90 MLD of treated water. Besides, the 18-inch main supply line connected to the Rakabganj zonal pumping station is not functioning after suffering damages. More than a dozen leaks have developed in household pipelines, also resulting in inadequate water supply.Shahganj locality resident Ravi Verma said, “We have not been getting adequate water supply for the past few days. We had raised the matter with Jal Sansthan officials. But so far, no action has been taken. On Sunday, we received nowater supply. Authorities are not concerned about problems of the common people.”Former councilor and a resident of Lohamandi locality, Hemant Kumar Prajapati, said, “Jal Sansthan administration is not concerned about thousands of people facing a water crisis. Work on repairing the pipeline is taking place at very slow pace. Water tankers have not been supplied to the residential areas.”According to Jal Sansthan officials, the water level in river Yamuna has dipped to a minimum of 480 feet at Jeevani Mandi water works station. Due to this, sufficient amount of raw water is not reaching the water treatment plants. Officials of the irrigation department have been asked to increase water discharge in the river from Gokul barrage in Mathura.General manager, Jal Sansthan, RS Yadav said, “We are working to improve water supply. Leak in the supply pipelines will be repaired within next one week. The water treatment infrastructure Jeevani Mandi station is under repairing. Soon it will start working at its full capacity. Tanke will be supplied in areas suffering from water scarcity .”The localities where people suffered no water supply on SundayThe most affected localities include Sadar Bhatti, Lohamandi, Aheerpara, Bodla road, Kala Mahal, Ghadapara, Belanganj, Rambagh and parts of Shahganj, Mantola, New Agra, Tajganj and Dayalbagh.
