Firozabad/Agra: Four days after two jewellers were shot dead by robbers in Mathura, a prominent glass industrialist from Firozabad was abducted along with his driver from the National Highway-2 near Nagla Bhau area on Friday afternoon. Firozabad police rescued the industrialist from Tundla’s Basai village following seven hours of search operation. One of the abductors was arrested and a gun has been recovered.According to police, industrialist Sanjay Mittal and his driver Bablu were stopped by three men who came on a motor bike. As soon as Mittal’s car halted, the miscreants barged inside the vehicle, held the two men at gunpoint and drove away with them. A manhunt has been launched to nab the other two culprits. Police said, the miscreants had left the motorbike behind.A resident of city’s posh Ganesh Nagar locality, Mittal is the managing director of FM Group and owns a factory at Dholpur Road. He left the factory around 12 pm on Friday. As news of his abduction spread, senior police officials, including senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ajay Kumar, superintendent of police (SP) (city) S K Vajpayee, circle officer (CO) Omkar Singh Yadav reached the spot along with a police force. The entry and exit points of the city were subsequently sealed to trace the culprits.CO Yadav told TOI that joint teams of police and special task force (STF) were placed on duty to trace the location of the culprits.Meanwhile, many glass traders expressed anguish over the incident and blamed police’s inefficiency in failing to stop crimes. Incidentally, Mittal’s father Satya Prakash was also abducted nearly 20 years ago and the family was able secure his release after one month by paying a hefty sum as ransom.BJP city president Kanhaiya Lal Gupta, who was among the first persons to reach the Mittals’ residence, said CM Yogi Adityanath had been informed about the incident.
