Man shoots 24-year-old niece, turns gun on himself

Some farmers who were working in a nearby field saw them talking for a while, and then, the man whipped out his gun and shot the woman. Agra: A 24-year-old woman in Etah’s Angraiya village was shot dead while she on her way home with her uncle after taking her MSc exam on Monday. Quoting witnesses, they said, Harikrishan stopped the bike near Angraiya village and allegedly shot the woman twice with his licensed revolver. Police have charged her uncle, a 42-year-old ex-serviceman who also sustained gunshot wounds, with her murder. Police are yet to unravel the motive behind the murder.Piecing together the events, police said after giving her practical exam at Dhumri in Etah, Rajput was returning home with her uncle Harikrishan on his motorcycle.

Police are yet to unravel the motive behind the murder.Piecing together the events, police said after giving her practical exam at Dhumri in Etah, Rajput was returning home with her uncle Harikrishan on his motorcycle. Quoting witnesses, they said, Harikrishan stopped the bike near Angraiya village and allegedly shot the woman twice with his licensed revolver. He then shot himself once in an attempt to commit suicide.While the girl died on the spot, Harkrishan was grievously injured and has been referred to a hospital in Agra for treatment.Station officer Indresh Pal said, “We have taken a suo motu cognizance of the matter, as no complaint from the family has been received so far. We are trying to ascertain the reason behind the crime.”An FIR under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 309 (attempt to suicide) has been registered against Harikrishan.According to police, Antima Rajput, a resident Nagla Bhimmi of Farrukhabad district, was pursuing MSc from a college in Etah. She used to frequently stay at her married uncle’s house in Aliganj and had come there a day before the exam.Additional superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar said, “The girl's family refused to lodge an FIR following which we had to approach the village chowkidar, on whose behalf, we have booked a case. Further investigations are on.”
