Tension in Aligarh after police fire at protestors after Friday prayers

AGRA: Tension prevailed in Aligarh after police resorted to firing to disperse a group of people who turned violent after the Friday prayers and indulged in heavy stone pelting. The Upper Court Street, where the clash occurred was strewn with bricks and stones, as riot police was deployed in the area. Though, he denied that any firing took place, local residents claimed that police personnel fired in the air to disperse the mob. Repeated appeal of DM, Aligarh, Rishikesh Bhaskar Yashoda to the youth to maintain peace yielded no results.Talking to TOI, SSP, Aligarh, Rajesh Pandey said that to control the mob, police restored lathicharge and used tear gas and chilli bomb. The outfit also demanded to impose National Security Act (NSA) against Suresh.

They were protesting the killing of two brothers, Mohammad Wasim and Mohammad Aashu , by a man from another community.Two people, including a policemen, were reportedly injured in the clash. The Upper Court Street, where the clash occurred was strewn with bricks and stones, as riot police was deployed in the area. While tension had been brewing ever since the killing of two brothers, who were shot dead by Suresh , what sparked off the protest was the apparent statement of BJP MLA, Sanjeev Raja, justifying the killing as an act of "self-defence".According to police, after offering prayer in the local, some youths, in the age group of 17-18 years, started shouting slogan against the BJP MLA, Sanjeev Raja and demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh for family of deceased. They then turned violent and started pelting stones at the police party that was posted there.The police immediately blocked access to the market area of upper court, Baniyapara, Usman para, Ghas Ki mandi, and Abdul karim chowk. Repeated appeal of DM, Aligarh, Rishikesh Bhaskar Yashoda to the youth to maintain peace yielded no results.Talking to TOI, SSP, Aligarh, Rajesh Pandey said that to control the mob, police restored lathicharge and used tear gas and chilli bomb. Though, he denied that any firing took place, local residents claimed that police personnel fired in the air to disperse the mob. One police vehicle was also damaged by the protestors.Pandey said, a case will be registered under various sections of IPC after identifying the youth in the video, as the entire incident was recorded. He said to avoid any untoward incident, two companies or Rapid Action Force (RAF) and one company PAC had been deputed in the area.He said, one sub inspector, Raj Kumar, was injured during the stone pelting. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and his condition is reported to be stable.Meanwhile, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimmen (AIMEM), city president, Salman Ali submitted a memorandum to the President of India, through the local administration, demanding strict action against the alleged killer, Suresh. The outfit also demanded to impose National Security Act (NSA) against Suresh.
