AMRITSAR: While claiming that they are being mentally tortured, the pro-Khalistan Sikh detainees lodged in Assams Dibrugarh Central Jail have declared their refusal to allow the jail authorities to lock their barracks in protest against no permission to their advocate to meet them in the jail.On Friday, Kirandeep Kaur, wife of Amritpal Singh, chief of the pro-Khalistan group Waris Punjab Dae, informed that Amritpal and fellow Sikh detainees in Dibrugarh jail expressed their resentment regarding the denial of permission for their advocate Rajdev Singh to meet them in the jail allegedly by the Amritsar Deputy Commissioner (DC). Kaur, a British national who claims to have been consistently visiting her husband every Thursday in the jail since his incarceration, alongside other pro-Khalistan Sikhs informed that they had also penned a letter to the superintendent of Dibrugarh Jail, informing about their protest in response to the alleged refusal of permission by the Amritsar DC despite Rajdev meeting each and every guidelines and writing thrice to the DC.Khalistan exponent Amritpal who was on the run since March 18 was arrested on April 23 and was flown to Assams Dibrugarh jail. The letter, written in English and a copy of which was given to Kirandeep bears the signature of the Sikh detainees as well as jail authorities on September 28, as claimed by Kirandeep. The letter reads: "Enough is enough, after repeatedly torturing us mentally, now DC Amritsar is misusing his power and denying permission to Rajdev. Now we are left with no other option but to go for protest. We refuse to accept jail bandi (will not allow to lock our barracks) till DC Amritsar himself talks to us and tells us where we are wrong.Earlier in the month of April, Amritpal had given a letter to the SGPCs legal team about the formation of a panel for conducting the upcoming judicial process.Stating that Amritpal and other detainees were in good health, Kirandeep also resented not allowing their advocate to meet them in the jail.Amritsar DC Amit Talwar said: "As per detenue order, a detenue can meet an advocate of choice. Amritpal was allowed advocate Navkiran Singh last month replacing Rajdev Khalsa upon consent given by him. Now again, he is requesting to meet Rajdev Khalsa while an advocate Navkiran is already permitted to meet him".
