AMRITSAR: The holy city of Amritsar is all set to host 27 day cricketing bonanza witnessing the participation of around 1024 cricket teams comprising of students, professionals, women , specially abled players etc. with interesting formats including street and street side cricket.It is an undeniable truth that a significant amount of cricketing talent sprouts from the raw, gritty arenas of streets where not only dreams are born but destinies are also shaped, and keeping this in mind Amritsar will host a monumental cricketing extravaganza with a fiery fusion of raw talent and unbridled passion from October 14 to November 9.Amritsar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh informed that the the diverse range of cricket formats to be featured in the upcoming event include Gully Cricket, emphasizing talent nurtured on the streets, Fatta Cricket, a league for players using plastic balls in street-side matches, a dedicated Womens League for female cricketers, School Cricket for those under 19, Disable Cricketers League tailored for differently-abled athletes, and the Opinion Leaders and Professionals Cricket League, welcoming participation from working professionals and influential figures.Hailing the holding of a mega cricketing event in Amritsar, an educationist, Sahil Sandhu expressed enthusiastic support for the initiative. He said the event would play a crucial role in steering the youth away from drug use. Stating the significance of sports and physical activity was an unparalleled outlet for channeling youthful energy positively, Sahil said the unique effort would help to dentify and nurture cricketing talent across various formats and hoped for the continued success of the initiative, warmly welcoming its positive impact on the community.Meanwhile Naunihal said that engaging in games not only promotes discipline and a healthy lifestyle but also serves as a potent deterrent against drug abuse. He further said that community-driven initiatives, when embraced, yield remarkable results. In an effort to bolster this cause, approximately 1100 cricket kits and prizes worth Rs 15 lakh would be distributed to the victorious teams adding that they hoped to make a record out of this event.
