11 B’desh nationals scale Attari ICP wall, held

AMRITSAR: Eleven Bangladesh nationals, including 3 women and 3 children, successfully scaled the fortified wall of the high-security Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari international border and remained there for over two hours before being detected by the Border Security Force (BSF).According to highly placed sources, the group intended to travel to Pakistan but lacked valid travel documents.On arriving in Amritsar on Wednesday, they went to Attari to witness the flag-lowering ceremony and to assess their chances of crossing the border. However, their behavior caught the attention of a local resident Ranjit Singh (name changed).He approached the Bangladeshi nationals and managed to gain their trust. When they revealed their intention of travelling to Pakistan, Ranjit, assured them that he would assist them at a price of Rs 25,000 per person. , sources revealed.However, they did not have sufficient funds and gave him Rs 25,000 with the understanding that they would arrange for their relatives to transfer the money to his account on reaching Pakistan, sources revealed. Sources said from 8 pm to 11.30 pm, the man hid them in vacant bunkers near the ditch-cum-bundh along the border, and then.he guided them towards the ICP from the Roranwala village side.Ranjit, who had arranged for a wire-cutter, cut the barbed wire, enabling all the Bangladeshi nationals to cross through it and reach the 11- foot-high wall. In the absence of a ladder, he hoisted each Bangladesh national on his shoulders to scale the wall and jump to the other side undetected. Sources further said that one of the pregnant Bangladesh women suffered a miscarriage during the process, leading to severe bleeding. All the Bangladeshis remained hidden in the ICP but were detected by the BSF at 2 pm and taken into custody and the woman was admitted to the hospital. Inspector General, BSF, Punjab Frontier, Atul Fulzele said 11 Bangladesh nationals were apprehended. We have asked the DGP, Punjab, to investigate the matter from a human trafficking angle, he said.
