Amritsar youth unite for `Sarbat da Bhala` and drug awareness

AMRITSAR: Thousands of young boys and girls from the holy city will unite at the Golden Temple for the first time to offer prayers for the sarbat da bhala (welfare of all) and raise awareness against drug abuse. Both the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Amritsar police commissionerate are actively preparing for this significant event.Amritsars police commissioner, Naunihal Singh, emphasized that prayers play a crucial role in personal and societal betterment, fostering inner growth and positive change. They are anticipating the participation of around 40,000 youths, predominantly students ranging from 8th to 12th grade, who will gather at the Golden Temple to pray for sarbat da bhala, with the hope of creating a more vibrant and drug-free community.Organized under the banner of the Hope Initiative, this mass prayer event is scheduled for October 18 and aims to address the issues related to drug abuse through collective and resolute efforts.In terms of security and logistical arrangements, Parminder Singh Bhandal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law, and Order, explained that multiple routes have been identified to facilitate the youths journey to the Golden Temple, ensuring minimal traffic congestion. Around 20,000 young participants will be allowed inside the temple at a time for the prayer session, while others will remain in the temples vicinity.
