4 men accused of beating cop to death in Punjab arrested

BATHINDA: The authorities in Barnala have arrested all four men accused of fatally assaulting head constable Darshan Singh. One of the prime suspects was captured following a brief encounter, while the other three were apprehended from different locations.Caught on cam: Mother-daughter duo shot dead and set on fire in Punjabs Jalandhar, US-based son-in-law bookedOn the run after the assault, one of the main suspects, identified as Paramjit Singh Pamma from Thikriwal village, was intercepted by Dhanaula police at a checkpoint while driving a car on Monday night. In a desperate attempt to escape, Pamma tried to evade the police but ended up stuck on the roadside. He opened fire at the police, who retaliated in self-defense, resulting in Pamma sustaining a gunshot wound to his ankle. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and taken to Barnala Civil Hospital for treatment. A .315 bore pistol was recovered from him, as confirmed by Barnala Senior Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Kumar Malik. Additionally, Pamma faces charges of attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act for firing at the police.The other three accused, namely Jagraj Singh from Raisar village, Gurmeet Singh from Cheema village, and Wazir Singh from Amla Singh Wala village, were also apprehended separately by police teams. Charges of murder under Section 302 have been filed against all of them.The incident occurred on the night of October 22 when the four suspects engaged in a dispute with the workers and owner of an eatery in the 25-acre area of Barnala, pertaining to the bill amount. Upon the arrival of a police party to investigate the matter, the four assailants physically assaulted head constable Darshan Singh, leading to his tragic demise during treatment for head injuries at Barnala Civil Hospital.The senior superintendent of police (SSP) emphasized that the case is currently under further investigation.
