Punjab: Valmiki bodies express resentment over CM Bhagwant Mann`s absence at event, warn of movement

AMRITSAR: While expressing resentment over Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Manns absence during the Pargat Diwas event for Adi Kavi Karuna Sagar Bhagwan Valmiki, various Valmiki bodies have warned to initiate a movement against the governments alleged lackdasical attitude to their demands."Valmiki bodies including Bhagwan Valmiki Ashram Dhuna Sahib Trust, Sant Samj and Safai Mazdoro Federation Punjab had made elaborate preparations to welcome Mann who was to make announcement of fulfilment of some of our demands on Saturday but he chose to remain absent from our function which has caused widespread resentment in the samaj, said Kamal Khosla Trusts chief general secretary adding that they were assured several times by the senior officials of Amritsar administration about the Manns arrival in the scheduled programme.He said there were long standing demands of Valmiki bodies with regards to Bhagwan Valmiki Teerath Sathal Shirne Board, Ram Teerath and safari karamcharis which needed to be fulfilled."We have decided to hold a meeting on November 2 at Amritsar to contemplate over the prevailing situation and if the government didnt take any initiative towards our demands then we will be beginning indefinite sit in at Bhangari Bridge from November 6", said Khosla.Meanwhile, cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO who attended the function gave a call to the people to follow the high ideals shown by Bhagwan Valmiki, so that an egalitarian society could be created. He said that strengthening the spirit of peace, harmony, and community is the need of the hour. He said that the Punjab government is with the people of the state and is making best efforts for the betterment of every section of society.Another cabinet minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Mann led Punjab government had been setting up institutions like the School of Eminence to provide quality education to the people of the state.
