AMRITSAR: Amritsar faces a wave of serious crimes, including the tragic killing of an assistant sub inspector (asi), an attempted political assassination, and a bold money bag snatching incident, causing embarrassment to the local police. The incidents have heightened concerns about the citys law and order situation, especially with the presence of prominent political figures like Punjabs chief minister and BJP state president during their recent visit.In one incident, ASI Sarup Singh was reportedly killed by unidentified assailants near Khankot village. The police, citing preliminary investigations, suggest a personal vendetta as the motive and claim to have identified the assailant, though no arrest has been made.The second incident involved an attempt on the life of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Dimple Aroras brother Aman Arora, allegedly by the son of a former municipal councillor. The altercation occurred during a dispute over sewage cleaning in the Putlighar area. While a case has been registered, no arrests have been made.The third incident saw robbers snatch a cash bag containing around Rs 4.5 lakh from a collection agent of a private company en route to Punjab National Bank. The agent, Deepak Kumar, reported the incident, but no arrests have been made in this case.Amritsar BJP president Harwinder Sandhu expressed concern about the citys law and order situation, criticizing the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the police. These incidents unfolded during the visit of high-profile political leaders, adding urgency to address the security challenges in the city.
