AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has condemned the alleged stopping the Shiromani Akal Dal (SAD) leaders including Bikram Singh Majithia and Virsa Singh Valtoha from meeting death convict Balwant Singh Rajoana lodged in Central Jail, Patiala.In a release issued here on Monday, the SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said that on the one hand, Rajoana, who had been incarcerated for the past 27 years, was forced to go on a hunger strike due to the alleged stubborn attitude of the government, while on the other hand, obstacles were being created before the Sikh community in pacifying him .Dhami alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab was working like a mission against the communitys concern towards Rajoana. He added that, according to the orders of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, the leaders of SAD were not allowed to meet Rajoana, who was going to begin a hunger strike in jail from December 5.Meanwhile, the SGPC president has written a letter to Rajoana appealing to withdraw his decision to start a hunger strike. In the letter, Dhami informed Rajoana about the decision of the SGPC executive committee stating that the constitutional review petition filed by the SGPC in his case to the president of India was based on panthic sentiments, which should not be withdrawn. Dhami wrote to Rajoana that in his case, the SGPC had also decided to hold a panthic protest from Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in Delhi to Rashtrapati Bhawan on December 20, 2023.
