Rampur: A principal here was unable to understand the difference between Science and Social Science before distributing question papers in the examination hall during the Uttar Pradesh High School Board examinations. This led to a scare that the paper would be leaked and exams in the district had to be postponed while officials rushed to undo the damage. An inquiry has been ordered.The incident occurred at Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College in Milak area of Rampur on Saturday when the principal opened the seal of question paper for Science instead of Social Science, which was the scheduled paper.Sarvanand (who goes by his first name), officiating in-charge of district inspector of schools (DIOS) told TOI, “All the envelopes containing Science question papers were withdrawn from 63 centres of the district within 36 hours and another question paper brought from Allahabad because we thought that the paper might be leaked.” On Tuesday, the students appeared for Science exams.Sub divisional magistrate, DIOS and other officials of the education department rushed tyo the spot and collected the opened enveloped which had the Science question papers. High officials in Lucknow and Allahabad have been informed of the matter.“Prima facie, it appears the principal did not have any mala fide intention in breaking the seals of the wrong subject. We have thoroughly investigated the matter. However, we did not want to take the chance that the paper might have been leaked, because these days everyone is equipped with mobile phones. So we directed the paper to be withdrawn from the district,” said Sarvanand.The principal, Dayalu Sharma said, “A total of 12 packets of question papers were brought to the school. Of these, six were from Science, which were placed in the bundle by mistake. In the confusion, the seals on these packets were broken. We informed the control room immediately, and authorities seized the opened packets.”Sarvanand said, “The principal was immediately removed from the post of in-charge of the examination centre and he has been banned from entering the centre during the exams.”District magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh also summoned officials and ordered an inquiry into the incident.Meanwhile, on the basis of complaint of Bareilly DIOS Achal Kumar Mishra, police on Tuesday lodged an FIR against centre in-charge of Jawaharlal Inter College, Himkarpur, Nawabganj under relevant sections of UP Public Examinations Act. The action was taken after DIOS during inspection on Tuesday found that the recording of CCTV cameras from Monday was missing.
