SI, head constable suspended in Dalit man’s custodial death

Devtadeen and his brother-in-law were arrested for quarrelling with each other on the night of February 14 and he was kept in police custody throughout the night. Next morning, he fell ill and died before getting any medical treatment.His family members had alleged that police had poisoned him to death for money and lodged a complaint against the SHO and the sub inspector. A departmental inquiry has also been setup against both the policemen, and further action will be taken on its report.Chinnapa said, “We have suspended the SI and head constable with immediate effect, and a departmental inquiry has been setup against them.”Devtadeen, 40, died under suspicious circumstances in police custody at the Kheri police station on February15. Shahjahanpur: Lakhimpur Kheri superintendent of police (SP) S Chinappa has suspended sub inspector Ashok Tripathi and head constable Radhe Lal for “negligence” after a 40-year-old man died in police custody on February 15.Earlier, the SP had shunted Kheri police station SHO Shamsher Bahadur Singh to the reserve police line in this connection.During investigation, the SP found that beat in-charge Tripathi and Lal, both of Dial 100 team, “guilty of inappropriate dealing with the case”.
