SHAHJAHANPUR: In a horrific incident, a man brutally beat his wife and tied her by the hands to the ceiling of their house after her parents could not agree to his dowry demands. The man then allegedly made a video of his wife and sent it to his in-laws with a fresh dowry demand. The man had earlier asked for the money he had spent on the delivery of their child at a hospital.An FIR has been lodged at Shahjahanpur Chowk Kotwali police station against the husband under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (criminal intimidation), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 3/4 Dowry Prohibition Act.Victim Ruchi Shukla, 32, was married to Ashok Shukla , a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri district, three years ago. Ruchi had given birth to a boy eight months ago and her husband had to spend Rs 40,000 for the operation. Later a party was thrown by Ashok for celebrating the birth of their boy and Ashok demanded, from his father-in-law Vinod Shukla, the money he had spent on the operation and the party. However, Vinod had refused to fulfill the demand. Thereafter, Ruchi’s relation with her husband and in-laws worsened they often allegedly tortured her for not fulfilling dowry demands, according to police.On Friday, Ashok came home drunk and started beating Ruchi with his belt. Thereafter, he tied Ruchi to the ceiling, made a video and sent it to his in-laws demanding money from them.Ruchi was brought back home by her parents on Saturday night and this issue was raised with Shahjahanpur police on Sunday. Since the crime had been allegedly committed in another district, police completed their initial investigation and filed the FIR against the husband under relevant sections.Vinod Shukla told TOI, “My daughter is extremely scared as her husband Ashok beat her severely because of dowry. She still has sleepless nights remembering the assault. We want strict action to be taken in this case.”Additional superintendent of police (city) Dinesh Tripathi told TOI, “We have registered an FIR against the husband in this case and investigation is on.”
