Basic education department resumes recruiting teachers in 51 districts

The basic education administration has fixed April 27 as deadline for completing the process of appointing teachers. BAREILLY: The basic education department of UP will resume the process of appointing 12,460 teachers across the state except in 24 districts, including Bareilly and Shahjahanpur.The process of recruiting teachers had been initiated under the previous Samajwadi Party regime on December 15, 2016. In case of four vacancies of ST category, only two applicants had appeared for counseling. But at the same time, it also suspended process of recruitments initiated by the previous SP regime.This decision was challenged in the high court by Kuldeep Singh.

BAREILLY: The basic education department of UP will resume the process of appointing 12,460 teachers across the state except in 24 districts, including Bareilly and Shahjahanpur.The process of recruiting teachers had been initiated under the previous Samajwadi Party regime on December 15, 2016. It was suspended by BJP-led Yogi government in 2017.The recruitment will resume following an order by Allahabad High Court in response to a plea by one Kuldeep Singh and others against the Yogi government’s decision. The HC order was issued on February 6, 2018.A letter to resume appointments was issued by Allahabad-based secretary of basic education council on Monday to basic education officers of 51 districts. The basic education administration has fixed April 27 as deadline for completing the process of appointing teachers. The appointment letters to selected candidates will be issued on May 1.In reference to the appointments of these teachers, the high court had directed the state administration through its order on May 16, 2017 to re-fix the criteria of awarding quality point marks to candidates as no clear norms had been devised for this system.In compliance with the order, the Yogi government decided on August 11, 2017 to amend the UP basic education (teachers’) service rules in awarding quality points. But at the same time, it also suspended process of recruitments initiated by the previous SP regime.This decision was challenged in the high court by Kuldeep Singh. In this matter, the court directed the state government on February 6 this year to continue the recruitment process.Secretary of basic education council Sanjay Sinha directed the BSAs to call those candidates for selection to their respective offices on April 23 who had appeared in first and second phases of counseling that had been held in March previous year.Sinha said the final selection of candidates would be made by the district level selection committee under various categories in accordance with the norms specified in UP basic education (teachers’) service rules, 1981.The BSAs had been instructed to complete this process by April 27, so that the appointment letters could be issued on May 1, Sinha said.Pilibhit’s BSA Indrajeet Prajapati told TOI that Pilibhit had 189 vacancies of basic education teachers — 95 under general category, 51 for OBCs, 39 for SCs and four for STs.A total of 448 candidates had appeared for these vacant posts in first phase of counseling. In case of four vacancies of ST category, only two applicants had appeared for counseling.
