Shahjahanpur: After a video of district hospital staff assaulting a patient went viral on social media, the chief medical officer on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the incident.The hospital staff allegedly assaulted a youth who was sedated by the Zeher Khurani gang while he was returning home after giving the constable recruitment exam on Tuesday.Officials said that Rajneesh Kumar (21), a resident of Saidpur village in Shahjahanpur’s Kalaan Tehsil, had his examination centre in Bareilly. On Tuesday, while returning home in a train, someone robbed him and left him unconscious. He was brought to the district hospital by a few local residents. Since the youth had been heavily sedated, he reportedly misbehaved with the staff at the medical facility. However, instead of helping him, the staffers began beating him with sticks.The incident was recorded by an unknown person, who shared the video on social media. Soon, the issue was brought to the notice of CMO RP Rawat, who immediately ordered an enquiry against the erring staff.Rajneesh said, “I don’t remember what happened to me while I was returning home from Bareilly. When I gained consciousness, I found injuries on my face, arms and left foot. I was told that I was misbehaving with the hospital staff and that’s why I was beaten up by them. I just want to go back home as soon as possible.”Meanwhile, the CMO said, “We have seen the video showing the staff beating a youth. I have ordered an inquiry in this case and the guilty staff would face suspension once the report is out.”
