Health department awaits vaccines for Haj pilgrims

I have spoken to officials in the health department and they have assured me that it will be provided soon. BAREILLY: A large group of people who are scheduled to leave for Haj next month met chief medical officer Dr Vineet Shukla on Wednesday to complain about delay in their vaccination. Nearly 1,300 people from Bareilly will go for Haj this year, with the first flight for pilgrims leaving on July 14.Attaur Rahman, president of Haj Sewa Samiti, a Bareilly-based social organisation, said, “The government hasn’t yet made arrangements for the vaccination of pilgrims. Once we receive the vaccines, we will organisehealth camps.” It’s mandatory for people embarking on the holy journey to take vaccination for meningitis, swine flu and polio at least 10 days before they reach Saudi Arabia Officials said that pilgrims have to produce a health certificate issued to them by the authorities here on their arrival at Jeddah airport.

We have requested the administration to expedite the process so that pilgrims do not face any inconvenience during their journey.”The organisation’s convenor, Pammi Warsi, said, “Due to delay on part of the Central Haj Committee, vaccines have not yet been provided to hospitals in UP.”Nazmul SI Khan, whose brother and sister-in-law have to leave for Haj next month, said, “We are worried as we don’t know when the vaccines will arrive and when will pilgrims be issued health certificates.” Imam Baksh, who, along with three others, will leave for Saudi Arabia, said, “Our training camp for Haj has also been postponed due to delay in vaccination.”Meanwhile, the CMO said, “We have not yet received vaccines from Lucknow. I have spoken to officials in the health department and they have assured me that it will be provided soon. Once we receive the vaccines, we will organisehealth camps.”
