Shahjahanpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should make genuine effort to make sugar mills pay dues to cane farmers instead of spending crores on rupees on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Kisan Kalyan’ rally to express its “fake concern” to the farmers amid fanfare, said Tanveer Khan, district president, Samajwadi Party, here on Thursday.Speaking at a press conference, Khan said, “Cane farmers of Shahjahanpur district have been waiting for the pending amount of Rs 476.77 crore, so BJP should help them get their dues cleared from the millers.”SP leader said despite an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) on crops, it would not help farmers economically as there had been simultaneous increase in the prices of diesel and electricity.Ram Murti Verma, former UP minister of SP, said, “Our party will show black flags to Modi as he has failed to deliver on his promises he had made to people during the Lok Sabha elections.”Dubbing senior police and administrative officials as “puppets” of BJP leaders, Khan said, “Common man is getting no response from them. Crime against women has increased, and police have failed to crack even the rape case of a seven-year-old girl that was reported two months ago.”“It seems police are protecting the accused as has been done by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who is putting all his effort to save rape accused BJP’s former union minister Swami Chinmayanand. CM even had dinner with Chinmayanand on Tuesday despite the fact that the court has issued a warrant against him. I don’t need to say anything further to describe the mentality of BJP leaders,” said Khan.A picture of UP CM and state cabinet minister Suresh Khanna with Chinmayanand, against whom the CJM court has issued a bailable warrant, went viral on social media. The trial in the rape case is yet to start as Chinmayanand has so far not appeared in the court, even as police filed a chargesheet six years ago.Targeting PM on the purchase of sugar from Pakistan, Verma said, “He should make it clear that what kind of relationship he wants to maintain with Pakistan. Our soldiers are being killed on the border, and instead of taking strict action, he buys sugar from Pakistan.”
